Our group is interesting in the understanding of the principles responsible for enzyme mechanisms with diverse functions. Although we have experiences with different enzymes, our main research is focused on cholinesterases which are among the most amazing and efficient biocatalysts that Nature has evolved. These enzymes which do not behave according to the conventional Michaelis-Menten type kinetics play surprisingly large number of various roles in cholinergic mechanisms and pharmacological actions. Consequently, we want to know how these functional biomolecules work on the molecular level and what are the biological significances of their kinetic behaviours. As the mathematical modelling is of fundamental importance for analyzing the kinetic data, we develope mathematical model equations and probe whether the models enable us to describe the dynamics of various biological processes (e.g. enzyme-catalyzed reactions, biological oscillating phenomena etc).

Cholinesterases

Beside of that, we're focused in cellular signaling, especially in molecular signal mechanisms of glucagons like peptide-1 receptor coupled with G-proteins in association with diabetes mellitus 2. We try to find new pharmacological targets for patients with diabetes mellitus 2. Treatment with peptide drugs is already being used successfully in various fields of medicine, such as allergy, anti-infection, diabetes, cardiovascular, obesity, arthritis, cancer. We discuss the effect of the third intracellular loop-derived peptide of GLP-1 receptor on intracellular mono-ADP-ribosyltransferase and its role in regulating the receptor. We suggest that this intracellular mono-ADP-ribosyltransferase could constitute a possible novel pharmacological target in the treatment of diabetes mellitus type 2 and obesity
